SOFTBALL Chambersburg 12, Cedar Cliff 1: Locked in a 2-1 game vs. the Colts on the road Friday afternoon, the Trojans exploded for 5 runs in the fifth inning and 5 more in the sixth to win a Mid Penn Commonwealth test.

Saleen Null

Saleen Null had a huge day for Chambersburg (5-1, 4-1 MPC), with 3 hits in 4 at-bats, including two home runs, and six runs driven in. She also pitched 5 innings, giving up only 1 hit, no walks, a run and 3 strikeouts.

“Saleen had a day to remember,” Trojan coach Chris Skultety said. “She gave up their only hit on her first pitch and then had five strong innings. And that kind of hitting is something we know she is capable of.”

Kori Leedy also pitched one inning, and got the Colts out 1-2-3.

Morgan Stockslager was 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs and Abagail Newman had a hit and drove in 3 runs.

Skultety said, “It was a great but exhausting week, and the girls deserve credit. It was our first week with more than one game and we traveled to Altoona, had a 10-inning marathon yesterday and traveled again today. You don’t know what to expect. We hit some rockets early for outs, but we didn’t get frustrated. and kept battling.”

BASEBALL Cedar Cliff 2, Chambersburg 1: The Trojan offense was again stuck in neutral Friday afternoon, managing just 3 hits in a Mid Penn Commonwealth defeat at the hands of the Colts at Greene Township Park.

Ryan Schellhase

Bryce Folmar pitched 5 innings for Chambersburg (1-6, 1-4 MPC), allowing only 3 hits and 4 walks and one unearned run. Ryan Schellhase pitched the last 2, giving up 3 hits and an unearned run.

“Bryce and Ryan both did a really nice job battling through some tough situations,” Trojan coach Scott Folmar said. “Our defense did not help them out at all today, with both of the runs being unearned.”

Trailing 2-0, the Trojans scored their only run in the bottom of the sixth. Brandon Pattillo reached base on an error and Carter Fogal singled through the left side. Wyatt Kissel then doubled to bring in Pattillo, but the Colts got the last two outs on a strikeout and a pop-up.

The only other hit by Chambersburg came from Chase Stenger. Colts pitchers collected 8 strikeouts.

“Kissel had a big hit for the second game in a row,” Coach Folmar said. “We need more guys to step up in big situations and come through with big hits.”

Nathan Heimbach

BOYS TENNIS Palmyra 5, Chambersburg 0: The Cougars took care of business against the Trojans and claimed a win in a non-league match Friday afternoon.

After Palmyra scored 6-0, 6-0 wins at No. 1 and 2 singles, Nate Heimbach was defeated 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3 for Chambersburg (2-7).

The No. 1 team of Camren Lesznar and Dhruv Patel fell 6-3, 6-3.
