A briefly existing genre of pop music, bubblegum appeared and flourished in the United States in the 1960s, targeting the pre-teenager generation whose favourite pastime was blowing chewing gum

bubbles. The earlier version of the music was based on rock advertising jingles designed to sell bubble gum.Successful songs included Yummy Yummy Yummy, by the Ohio Express, Sugar Sugar by the Archies and many others, which took their influences from the U.S. pop producer Neil Bogart.
