The call of nature ，按字面意思理解是大自然的呼唤。但是，千万不要这样翻译哦，老外听了一定会又尴尬又好笑的。

The call of nature的引申义是“上厕所”的意思，有时候也表达成“answer the call of nature”.

Does anyone need to answerthe call of naturebefore we set off?

我们准备出发了，有谁想上冼手间？

There was no break in the agenda, not even forthe call of nature.

日程表里没有休息时间，连上厕所的时间都没有。

call it a day

到此为止，结束

不知道大家有没有听过Call it a night这种表达，它并不是指“叫它一个晚上”而是“今晚到此为止，收工”。

Call it a day与其意思相同，只是较前者而言，它所指范围更广，泛指白天和夜晚。

二者的释义理解就类似于每天结束之后，很多人都会总结这就是自己完整的一天或者一个晚上。

sell the pass

出卖事业，放弃立场，背叛

相传古爱尔兰曾发生过这样的事情，凯尔国王率兵入侵阿萨，阿萨国王派兵团扼守关口，不料这军团受了敌方贿赂，将关口拱手相让，结果不战而败。所以人们后来用sell the pass（出卖关口）来比喻出卖、背叛或放弃立场的行为。

精于；热衷于

表达对一件事物的喜爱，我们常用be fond of sth，be keen on等等表达。除此之外，可以用big on来表示对一件事物的热衷与酷爱，相当于be very fond of.

低估；轻视；怠慢；卖空

Sell short 不是卖短处，而是指低估，卖空的意思。卖空是指市场中的一种获利手段。
